Reading Seuss style

Students and faculty at Jemison Elementary School including the lunchroom staff participated in Read Across America yesterday.
In particular, they celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss, which was yesterday. Teachers asked members of the community to come to the school and read to their classes.
Even the Cat in the Hat made an appearance at the school. Students who made a donation had the opportunity to be photographed with the Seuss character. All proceeds went to the school’s Relay for Life team.
The lunchroom staff cooked green eggs and ham for breakfast in honor of the occasion.
The school’s theme was “I Can Read With My Eyes Shut,” which is a Seuss book. Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed read that book to kindergarten classes yesterday afternoon.
Students and teachers also wore special t-shirts and even some Cat in the Hat hats to school for the occasion. Teachers will also be reading aloud to their classrooms.
Jemison Elementary School Principal Louise Pitts said the event was to help get the students excited about reading.
