Greg DeJarnett was appointed to fill the Ward 4 city council post in December 2008, unanimously by the other members of the Clanton City Council.

DeJarnett, a 12-year educator in the Chilton County School System, received the most votes in the municipal election held in Clanton last summer. Not receiving a majority of the votes, however, a run off election was held between DeJarnett and William Trimble. Trimble won the run-off election but his win was offset by a circuit court order when it was ruled Trimble did not live in Ward 4 and could not take the seat on the council.

Circuit Judge John Bush ruled the council should appoint a person to fill the position. On Dec. 8 the council appointed DeJarnett to fill the seat the next four years.

Shortly after his appointment DeJarnett said he was excited about the growth Clanton can experience in the coming years.

“In the next four years I hope we can capitalize on the geographic location Clanton offers and maximize our opportunities to attract new businesses and jobs,” he said.

“Every day people travel to the Prattville area and Shelby County to shop,” he added. “The council needs to continue to seek ways to keep this money at home. More business creates more jobs and opportunities for our citizens.”

DeJarnett has served as a teacher, superintendent of the school system’s transportation department and now is principal of Chilton County High School.

He and his wife, Jackie, are the parents of a son, Delondre, and a daughter, Santana, 10.
