Schools help community

Many people will be helped locally because Chilton County United Way has met its fundraising goal of $200,000.

But this money, which goes to assist 26 local agencies, does not come out of thin air. It is given by many generous individuals, organizations, companies and schools.

Our schools have a unique opportunity to help those in need through an annual fundraiser called Dollar Day. Thanks to all the schools that participated in this effort. The three top schools, however, deserve an extra pat on the back. These were Jemison Elementary, Jemison Middle, and Jemison High School.

The students and faculty in Jemison have certainly raised the bar for everyone else in the county.

Not only does Dollar Day teach students about the value of giving, but it also provides another way for people here in Chilton County to receive much-needed assistance in a time when giving is not the easiest thing to do.
