Louise Campbell briefed Clanton Water and Sewer Board members Monday afternoon on the department’s $2 million upgrade planned for the city’s water treatment plant.

Campbell, representing LP Campbell Company, assists the city in acquiring state and federal grants for various city projects. She told water board members she hopes to file the necessary paper work on the three-phase project by late March or April.

“The project will be funded by a $1 million dollar grant that will be matched by the city,” Water Board member and city councilman Bobby Cook said.

AME, an engineering firm from Montgomery, has planned the project that is designed to upgrade the water plant throughout. “It should put the water plant in first rate condition for the future,” Cook said.

City Clerk Debbie Orange said the grant for the project was approved through the Environmental Protection Agency.

Cook said the city hopes the actual work on the project will begin this fiscal year.
