Blazers dominate Southern Miss

HATTISBURG, Miss. (AP) — Paul Delaney III scored 16 points and the University of Alabama Birmingham defeated Southern Mississippi 66-49 on Saturday night.
The Blazers (16-8, 6-3 Conference USA), who leads the conference in field goal percentage with 46.7 a game, shot 47.9 percent against the Golden Eagles (23 of 48).
Channing Toney and Robert Vaden scored 15 points each for UAB in its first win at Southern Mississippi since Feb. 18, 2006. Lawrence Kinnard added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Blazers took their first lead, 23-22, on a jump shot by Toney with 5:36 left in the first half.
UAB’s biggest lead was 66-47 on a dunk by Delaney with 1:49 left in the game.
R.L. Horton led Southern Mississippi (13-9, 3-5) with 19 points. Courtney Beasley added 16 and Jeremy Wise scored 10 for the Golden Eagles.
