DADEVILLE — Alabama State Troopers are still trying to piece together information from a wreck that killed one motorcyclist Sunday afternoon.
Ronald Clyde Christian Jr., 53, of Verbena, was killed when his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a 2008 Dodge Ram pickup on Alabama Highway 50 near Martin Dam. Troopers from the Alexander City post are investigating the accident.
Alabama State Trooper Reginald Harkins said Christian was traveling in a group of approximately 6 to 8 other motorcycles in the eastbound lane of the highway at the time of the wreck.
“The motorcycle was traveling east, drifted into the westbound lane and struck the other vehicle,” Harkins said.
He said Christian was pronounced dead at the scene. Harkins added that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
Sgt. Robert Watson, with the Alabama State Troopers, said that particular stretch of highway is a popular route for motorcycle enthusiasts on recreation rides.
“It’s a scenic route, so when a lot of motorcyclists go out on recreation rides they come out to that spot,” Watson said.
Watson said Christian was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. There were no other injuries as a result of the wreck.
