MONTGOMERY — A state Finance Department report shows that tax collections for the Alabama Education Trust Fund fell 12.6 percent in October through December compared with the same period a year earlier.

October through December comprises the first quarter of the state’s 2009 fiscal year, leaving time for improvement.

If trends don’t change, the drop in trust-fund revenues could be the worst since at least 1982.
