ATLANTA — Alabama and Virginia Tech will open next season in the Georgia Dome.

Chick-fil-A Bowl President Gary Stokan said Friday the two teams will meet on Sept. 5. A formal announcement was scheduled for later in the day.

Alabama appeared in the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff against Clemson this season and sparked its rise to No. 1 with a blowout win.

Both Alabama and Virginia Tech are playing in Bowl Championship Series games.

The Crimson Tide is set to play Utah in the Sugar Bowl after losing to Florida in the Southeastern Conference championship game at the Dome. Virginia Tech beat Boston College in the ACC Championship Game and will play in the Orange Bowl against Cincinnati.

Tickets will be split evenly between the two teams.
