Florene Kennedy

Florene K. Kennedy, 90, was born in Kellerman, Ala., on Nov. 28, 1918 to Dec. 15, 2008 to Albert L. and Allie Mae King. She is the oldest of 11 children and is survived by her sister Charlotte Faye Mills (Ray) of Snellville, Ga., and brother Franklin King (Pat) of Birmingham. Ms. Kennedy married Lloyd Robert Vernon in 1937 and is survived by her daughter Peggy Morrison, (Curtis Morrison) grandchildren Kellie, Gary (Maria), Alan Morrison, and four great grandchildren, Justin, Mallory, Caroline, and Kristin Morrison and a host of nieces and nephews.
Florene lived in Rocky Ridge among family and friends for over 50 years. Following the death of Lloyd Vernon, she remarried Robert Kennedy of Kellerman, spending her last years in Meadowbrook, located in Shelby County. She enjoyed being a member of New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Shelby County. Ms. Kennedy was an avid gardener, an accomplished quilter, and her culinary talent nourished many at her table over the years. Alzheimer’s claimed her as a victim and since 2006 she has been generously and tenderly cared for by the devoted staff at Prattville Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at Southern Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. Family visitation at 10:30 a.m., public visitation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with services following at 1 p.m. Graveside service will be open to family and friends at Forest Hills Cemetery.
It is with great thanksgiving that family and friends remember and celebrate this very special mother and grandmother.
