Maplesville, playing in its first game of the season, couldn’t keep up with Chilton County High’s pressing defense on Friday, and the visitors won, 87-35.
The Tigers (3-2) pressed from the beginning, and it took the Red Devils 2:30 to break it for their first bucket, on a dish from Brian Bailey to Casey Atchison that made it 7-2.
The lead was cut to four before with seconds left in the first quarter, but CCHS went back to the press and picked up two steals and two lay-ins in 18 seconds before the buzzer.
Those scores would be part of a 15-1 run that lasted into the second quarter, and Chilton rolled the rest of the way.
CCHS’s Kenyon Floyd led all scorers with 20 points. Taylor Hughes had 13 points, and Tra Felder was good for 10.
Edward Williams pulled down eight rebounds. Josh Williams had seven assists and five steals.
Atchison led Maplesville with eight points. Bailey had seven points.
