Subdvision in Thorsby to have Christmas luminaries

The Joyland and Saraland subdivisions in Thorsby are planning a presentation of Luminaries on Saturday, Dec. 20 and again on Sunday Dec. 21.

A few years ago many people who drove through the subdivisions to see the decorations enjoyed the presentation.

“Instead of decorating the houses in the division with Christmas lights we are celebrating the season with natural candle light,” subdivision resident Shonda Copen said.

The candles will be lit at 5 p.m. on Saturday and will burn until 10 p.m. and they will be lit at 5 p.m. on Sunday and will burn until 8:30 p.m. The subdivisions are hoping that people from around the area can come and bring their children through to see the simplistic beauty of the candle light decorations.

“This is just something that we are doing and we just want to be able to share the beauty with everyone,” Copen said.

In front of the subdivision there will be special candles placed and burned for residents within the subdivision that have passed away.

Both subdivisions are located in Thorsby. Joyland subdivision is located at the end of Oak Street, which is the street between the Throsby Post Office and Garrison Home Center while Saraland is just off of U.S. Highway 31. There have been signs placed to show access to both subdivisions.
