“It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night, Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound. For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands. O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep. A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed for ever” (Psalm 92:1-7).

Thought for the week: “My Basket of Blessings.”

“My life, well, it’s my basket. The Lord begins to add his special blessings as I lift it up to Him. The blessings of a new day, the sun so bright and warm, that I arose this morning in a place that I call home…flowers in my garden, birds that sweetly sing, music from my radio — oh, what happiness they bring. Hands to help my neighbor, work for me to do, joy to fill my heart and soul whenever I am blue. My basket’s overflowing at the ending of the day, such thankfulness fills my heart with such gratitude I pray.”

Fifth Sunday services will be held at several area churches tomorrow. Services will begin at 11 a.m.

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with praise, prayer, scripture, song and testimony by the praise team. Songs included, “I’ll Fly Away” and “Stand By Me, Lord.” The scripture was read by Perry Nunn with prayer by Pastor Dukes.

The morning message was given by Bro. Kenneth Boatright of Greene County. His theme was, “Learning How to Say ‘Thank You.’” The world has left all sense of priority and order. One root of religion is being able to say “thank you.”

Nine lepers went on their way after being healed, but only one returned to say thanks to Jesus. Paul on the road to Rome sent a letter concerning Christian etiquette, including giving thanks for everything.

Your religion should let you rejoice and pray without ceasing. The devil is not happy with peace in the house. That’s why prayer should be constant. The zenith of Christian conduct is being able to thank God for his universe and for everything he did and continues doing. In everything, give thanks.

Our sympathy goes out to the families of Carrie Weems, Walter McCall Jr. and James Edwards in their time of bereavement. Mrs. Weems was funeralized earlier this week. Arrangements are incomplete on Mr. McCall and Mr. Edwards at this time.
