Gov. Bob Riley has awarded a $135,750 grant to curtail domestic violence and help victims in Autauga, Chilton and Elmore counties.

The grant to the Elmore County Commission will be used to continue the work of the 19th Judicial Circuit Domestic Violence Unit. This specialized law enforcement unit investigates domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault cases and prosecutes offenders.

The unit is available 24-hours a day to assist victims, and staff members work with area law enforcement officers, medical personnel and social service workers to ensure victims receive needed assistance.
