Ala.’s jobless rate climbs in Oct. to 5.6 percent
Alabama’s unemployment rate climbed in October to 5.6 percent.
Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees said Friday the state’s jobless rate was up from 5.3 percent in September.
The national unemployment rate also rose in September to 6.5 percent.
Alabama counties with the lowest unemployment rates were Shelby at 3.6 percent and Madison at 3.8 percent.
Counties with the highest jobless figures were Chambers at 14.3 percent, Wilcox at 12.8 percent and Bullock with 12 percent.
