A shortfall in state revenue is causing Alabama to be late again in sending state funds to school systems to make their monthly payroll.

State Superintendent of Education Joe Morton has warned city and county school superintendents that they won’t get all of their monthly state allotment next week. Some of it will have to wait until December, but it’s uncertain how much.

The same thing happened at the end of October. School systems got 75 percent of their state allotment in late October and the rest came in early November after the state had collected some November taxes. State officials say that caused November to start off being behind.

State officials have not determined how much of the state payment will go to school systems next week and how much will wait until December. Morton says that decision should be made by Monday.
