Thorsby names Marvin Crumpton to Town Council

After meeting in executive session for more than one hour, the Thorsby Town Council selected Marvin Crumpton to fill the vacancy on the council.

The position became available when the council declared the seat vacant after former council member James Shropshire moved to Oklahoma in September.

Thorsby will also be charging mini storage warehouses $5 per door in addition to their regular business license and issuance fee. The amendment to the business license ordinance was passed 3-1. The lone “no” vote was cast by Council Member Neil Benson.

In other business, the council:

agreed to pay half of Lance Hilyer’s tuition to fire college.

agreed to allow the fire department to make upgrades to its fire training facility.

made an $8,000 payment to the Regional Planning Commission to update the town’s zoning and subdivision regulations.

heard from Dave and Teresa Newton who proposed having a 1 a.m. curfew for juveniles.

changed its billing for the Chilton County Transfer Station from weekly to monthly.

allowed Jemison Head Start to use Helen Jenkins Chapel on Dec. 6 for free.

approved getting a new phone system for the town.

purchased Christmas bows for $250 to be used in Richard Wood Park. A park decoration day will be Friday at 1 p.m.
