Wednesday, Jemison High School enjoyed a few messages from the past as students listened to local veterans talk about their war stories.
The event was under the direction of Jemison High School coach Kelly Smitherman; however, the students were the ones who worked, planned out and executed the big day.
“I have had a lot of students who have really put some hard work into making this day really special for not only the audience but also for the veterans that took time out of their schedule to come out here and talk with us today,” Smitherman said.
The event started at 1 p.m. and lasted for a solid hour and a half. A reception followed with a catered lunch by SouthernCare Hospice, who were more than happy to support the veterans.
The students were able to find veterans from all branches of the military including Air Force, Navy, Marines and Army. They had a total of 12 veteran visitors who showed up to receive praise for their years of service and thanks for the time they spent giving us the life we have today.
The veterans in attendance included Eugene Caldwell, Air Force; Alan Broodhead, Navy; Gene R. Hitchock, Marine; Curtis Dennis, Army; E. H. Richards, Air Force; Robert Isbew, Marines; John Bush, Navy; Joseph Crigg, Army; Jerry Wineyard, Army and Victor Rodrequez, Navy.
