A man was arrested last week after two pounds of marijuana and a handgun were found in his car during a routine traffic stop on I-65.
Last weekend, Sgt. Randy “Ran” Morris Jr. of the Jemison Police Department stopped Larrius Erol Underwood, 23, of Dothan on I-65 for a traffic violation. After questioning the suspect Morris used his K-9 partner “Clip” to search the car. During the search, Clip found the odor of narcotics emitting from the vehicle.
Morris then searched the interior of the car and confiscated almost two pounds of marijuana and a handgun. He then placed Underwood under arrest, and the suspect was placed in the Chilton County Jail with charges of first-degree possession of marijuana. Underwood is being held on a $10,000 bond.
“Traffic stops like this justify the training of our K-9 handler and drug dog Clip,” Police Chief Brain Stilwell said. “While these narcotics were not coming to Jemison, we did stop this dope from getting back to Dothan.”
The Jemison Police Department and the Chilton County Drug Task Force are working together to find the origins of the confiscated narcotics.
