The 2008 Christmas Parade is on its way to Chilton County.

For the past four years, the Rotary Club of Chilton County has sponsored the Christmas Parade. This year is no exception, as they are now getting ready to take in applications for floats and acts for the parade.

“We have been participating in the parade as well as planning it for the past four years and we can’t wait to get this year started,” club member Roger Yeargan said.

The parade will be held Dec. 5. Lineup begins at 4:30 p.m.

Yeargan said he couldn’t stress how important it is for all parcipants in this year’s parade to follow the rules.

“We have had many parades that have gone without injuries, and we want to keep that up,” he said.

Rules include the following:

People should not get on and off floats during the parade.

A moving vehicle can be dangerous. There should be no limbs handing from a moving vehicle or trailer.

The Christmas Parade should not have a theme other than Christmas.

Candy can be hard, so if at all possible it should be tossed lightly from parade participants.

“We want everyone to enjoy this year’s parade just like they have in the past. We know that people are going to throw candy to the crowd, and we encourage that, but we would like to remind everyone to try and buy candy that does not have sticks or parts that can cause damage when thrown,” Yeargan said.

Applications will be accepted all the way up until the Monday before the parade and can be picked up at The Clanton Advertiser or City Hall.
