JEMISON – The Jemison Blue Regiment Marching Band had spotlight shine on them last weekend.

The band received “best in class” for Class AA and the “Ronnie White Memorial Award” at the Pell City Marching Band Contest Saturday. Also receiving “best in class” were the dance line, majorettes and color guard.

The drum major, majorettes, dance line, drum line, color guard and band earned superior ratings at the contest.

Jemison band director George Martin said the 90-member band beat out bands such as Shaw, West Blocton, Winterboro Coosa-Central and county rival Chilton County.

“This is the first time this year’s senior class has ever received best in class at a contest,” he said. “The seniors set the goal to win best in class this year and they did it.”

The band is under the field direction of drum major Karyn Smithey and band captain Schylar McBride.

The band also received superior ratings in band, majorettes, dance line, drum major and drum line during the Prattville “Heart of Dixie Contest” the previous week. The dance line also was named best in class.
