Greg DeJarnett has contested the city runoff election in Clanton’s Ward 4.

DeJarnett lost to Wiliam Trimble in the runoff by a vote total of 112-98 in the Oct. 7 runoff.

DeJarnett confirmed the contest in a phone interview yesterday afternoon, but didn’t wish to comment about case at this time. Attempts to reach his attorney, Bill Speaks, were unsuccessful yesterday afternoon.

The main point of contention revolves around Trimble’s residence. The contest, which was filed in Chilton County Circuit Court, stated that Trimble was not qualified to vote in that district and did not reside in that district.

The contest also stated that Trimble was a registered voter in Ward 5, and Trimble’s residence is listed as being on Kincheon Road, which is in Ward 5.

The Ward 4 position on the Clanton City Council will be vacated by Councilmember Elizabeth Hill, who decided not to run for election. She was appointed to fill that position by the city council after her husband, Elem, died in office earlier this year.

The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge John Bush.
