Remembering a special friend

Dear Editor,

In 1994 Mary Durbin joined Senior Connection. She was involved at the hospital in many different ways. Every time we had a blood drive she was right there volunteering. Handing out juice and cookies to the donors with a smile. When ever we had a luncheon she would always make her homemade yeast rolls or tea cakes.

As an avid Senior Connection Exercise member she was always the first one there before exercise started. She would walk to class which was about a mile and then be doing her sit ups on the floor when everyone else would arrive. After exercising for about 45 minutes, often times she would walk back home. Never complaining about anything and never said a harmful word about anyone that we can remember.

Mary also loved to travel with the group. The last trip that she went on with us was to the Governor’s Mansion in Montgomery. We had lemonade and cookies and after we were finished she of course asked if she could help clean up. She was always doing for others or working. She has not been able to be with us for several years but has always been in our thoughts. We will miss you dearly and you will always have a special place in our hearts as will other members that have gone on to a much better place. We love you.
