Lawrence Eugene (Gene) Jones, Sr., 86, of Verbena died Sunday, Oct. 12, at his residence.
He was born on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1922, in Chilton County, son of the late James Arthur Jones and the late Mamie Robinson Jones.
He was an electrician with L&N Railroad, a WWII Veteran and a deacon of Corinth Baptist Church for 50 years.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Jones of Verbena; son, Larry (Sheila) Jones of Verbena; daughter, Patsy Jones of Verbena; two granddaughters, Wendy (Jeremy) Pierce of Verbena, Kim (Jonathan) Bowen of Verbena; grandson, Nick Jones of Verbena; great-grandchildren, Macey and Michael Pierce of Verbena; sister, Frances Brown of Irvington.
Friends were received from 5-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, at Martin Funeral Home.
Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Bert Tippett officiating.
Interment followed in Corinth Baptist Cemetery.
