Final Verbena push comes up short

A fourth-down Verbena pass with 1:23 left to play from the Fayetteville 20-yard line was intercepted Friday night, and the visitors pulled out an 18-6 win.
Fayetteville (1-5, 1-3 region) scored on runs of 67 yards and 32 yards in the first half. Verbena answered the first score with a 7-yard run by Dustin Short, and Austin Daniel ran in the 2-point conversion. But the Red Devils (2-4, 1-3) couldn’t score again.
Verbena’s Marshall McGaskin rushed for 82 yards on 11 carries.
