Monique Harton got the surprise of her life this week.

The Clanton Elementary reading coach was awarded a $1,000 grant on Tuesday by WIAT CBS 42’s One Teacher at a Time program.

CBS 42 meteorologist Charles Daniel and the Chick-Fil-A cow presented the check to Harton during a program in the school’s lunchroom in front of the students in second grade.

The grant will be used to purchase carry-along books and cassettes. Students will be allowed to check out the books and tapes.

Harton said that these materials will promote a love for reading and more parental involvement.

Daniel told the students during the program that the check presentation and interview of Harton would air on television Tuesday during the “One Class at a Time” segments on their daily news broadcasts.
