Jean Hicks

Jean R. Hicks, 85, of Maplesville died Saturday, Sept. 20, at Bibb County Nursing Home in Centerville.
She was born Wednesday, May 30, 1923 in Hull, England, daughter of the late James Roberts and the late Hilda Hanzel Reay Roberts.
She served in WWII in the British Royal Air force, where she met her husband, who was serving in the American Army Air Corp, and became one of the many war brides. They were married in Warnell, England. She was a member of the Church of England.
Survivors include her son, Layden P. (Mary) Hicks Jr. of Pace, Fla.; three daughters, Hilda (Joel) Atchison of Maplesville, Pam (Tommy) Bishop of Maplesville, Cindy Lyne Hicks of Maplesville; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; brother, Jimmy Roberts of Hull, England; her favorite uncle, Harry Reay of New Castle Upon Tyme, England.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Layden P. Hicks Sr.; sister, Rosella Hunt; brother, Tommy Reay and parents, James and Hilda Hanzel Roberts.
Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to service at Maplesville Baptist Church. Services were held Sunday, Sept. 21 at Maplesville Baptist Church with the Rev. J. Aaron Ellison officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lawley.
