Graveside services for Mark Alan Gothard, 47, of Opelika were held Monday, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. at Garden Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Steven Scoggins officiating. A memorial service followed at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Opelika.
Mr. Gothard was born Oct. 23, 1960 in Jefferson County to Sherman Odett and Lindy Gothard. He passed away Sept. 12 in Opelika.
Mr. Gothard was a member of First Baptist Church of Opelika. He was involved with youth baseball and was on faculty at West Forest Elementary School. He was a devoted and loving husband and father.
Mr. Gothard was preceded in death by his father, Odett Gothard. He is survived by his wife, Joy Gothard; sons, Chris and Kyle Gothard; mother Lindy Gothard of Jemison; brothers, David (Jody) Gothard of Montevallo, and Michael (Martha) Gothard of Clanton; sister, Benita (Eddie) Chapman of Jemison; mother-in-law, Charlotte Humphrey; brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Humphrey; seven nephews and three nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 605 Davis Circle, Huntsville, AL 35801 or First Baptist Church of Opelika. Fredericks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
