An 18-year-old Calera woman was flown to UAB Hospital after her convertible wrecked off of Highway 31 Tuesday.
The victim was traveling north on Highway 31 around 11 a.m. in her Mazda Miata when it left the road and flipped. She was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. No one else was in the car.
Officials on the scene said that the driver of the vehicle behind the convertible witnessed the wreck and called 911.
The cause of the crash was not determined. After the convertible left the road, it ran through some small trees and flipped over a small hill, which made the vehicle not noticeable from the roadway.
The Jemison Police and Fire departments responded to the single-car crash about one mile north of Gene Martin Auto Sales.
She was transported to the Shelby County Airport by ambulance, where she was then transported the rest of the way by LifeSaver helicopter.
The crash is under investigation by the Jemison Police Department.
The victim’s name or condition was not immediately available yesterday afternoon.
