Mark your calendars now for Clanton Kiwanis Club’s 2008 Chilton County Fair to be held at the fairgrounds in Clanton September 22-27. The fair will have something for everyone in your family to enjoy.

Inside your Clanton Advertiser today is a special fair section that provides you a schedule of fair events and other important facts about this year’s Kiwanis Fair.

Admission to the fair is $3 for everyone except three and under may enter free. Armbands for rides will be $15 each night and there will be plenty of free parking.

The gates will open at 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Kiwanians have planned antique tractor displays, a true-to-life demolition derby various animal shows and competitions as well as singing groups throughout the week.

The rules for entering exhibits to be judged are included in the fair section as well as other important facts about the Kiwanis Club and the fair.

Please take the time to look through the section that is filled with sponsor ads purchased by individuals, businesses and organizations.

The support of these people, businesses and organizations help the Kiwanis Club produce a quality county fair for us to enjoy each year.

I hope to see you at the fair September 22-27.

Turning to another upcoming event, the Clanton Advertiser in association with the Rotary Club will sponsor the second annual Newspaper in Education book sale in early October. The sale is a good opportunity to obtain good reading material while helping the Rotary Club and The Clanton Advertiser provide newspapers for school children every week.

We have had literally several hundred books donated to the NIE program by area residents. If you like historical book, cookbooks, children’s books, novels, biographies, paper and hardcover books, you owe it to yourself to come to the sale and browse.

No book will sell for more than $1 and many will sell for less.

All proceeds from the sale will go to the Rotary Club’s NIE program administered by The Clanton Advertiser.

I’ll be sure to let you know the day and time of the sale.
