Panthers take home opener

Jemison’s only two returning starters from last year came through when needed Thursday night to spark a sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-17) over Thorsby in Jemison’s first home match of the season.

With the Panthers (6-3) down 14-13 in Game 2, senior Christie Hoffmeyer toed the line and served for nine consecutive points.

Not to be outdone, junior Tabatha Cork served for 10 consecutive points in the third game to give the hosts a comfortable 20-9 lead.

Hoffmeyer finished with four kills and four aces, and Cork had eight aces and two assists.

The two veterans were helped by Kasi Wells and her 10 assists and three aces.

Holly Smith recorded six assists and three aces for Thorsby, and teammate Keri Whitman posted five digs, three kills and two assists.
