The Chilton County Fair is just 17 days away, and the Clanton Kiwanis Club is putting the final touches on the plans for this year’s event.

This is the fifth year that the club has sponsored the fair, and fair coordinator Melinda McCullough said the planning has been smooth.

“It’s been fairly easy to get ready for this year’s fair,” McCullough said. “We’ve been doing it for five years. We have had enough time to get everything organized so that everything moves much smoother now.”

The fair will be held Sept. 22-27 at the Chilton County Fairgrounds on Airport Road in Clanton. Admission prices are $3 each night, and armbands to ride all the rides will cost $15 each night. Parking is free.

The newest addition to the fair is Gospel Night on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 7-9 p.m. Lloyd Nutter, who has helped organize several gospel singings including the annual Red Cross singing, will emcee and help organize the event.

Probably, the biggest returning event is the Demolition Derby on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. The cash prize for the event is $1,200. The entry fee is $25.

McCullough encouraged anyone who is interested in participating in the derby to call 1-888-361-5767, log on to www.stoneyroberts.com or e-mail Stoney_Roberts@msn.com. There will be no registration on the day of the event.

One of the issues with the derby night was traffic, but McCullough said they hope to have that fixed this year.

Other nights of the fair include:

CCHS’s Blast from the Past and an antique tractor show on Monday, Sept. 22.

Lamb and goat show on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Southern Pride performing on Wednesday, Sept. 24

Steer show at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25.

Beef show at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Exhibits must be submitted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The fair will be open Friday night as well.
