New Web site allows grads to stay connected

A Chilton County High School graduate has launched a Web site that will help graduates connect with former classmates.

The site is called DogTrot.us, which was launched last week, and all six high schools in Chilton County are listed on this site.

Rhett Barbaree, DogTrot.us owner, is a 1978 CCHS graduate. He said the Web site was born out of he and a group of classmates planning his 30-year reunion this year. The group was having difficulty locating everyone in their class to let them know about the reunion.

But Barbaree learned about Andalusia High School creating a site similar to www.classmates.com that had over 4,000 of its graduates registered.

“They had people as far back as 1935 registered for the site,” he said. “When I started to look into the site, I found out that you could build a site for multiple schools for just as cheap as doing one site.”

So Barbaree made it available for the county schools, and he hopes to take it statewide or further.

The main differences from www.classmates.com are that his site has free registration and it allows classmates to interact directly.

“On Classmates, you have to interact with the people through the site. It sends you an e-mail telling you that you have had someone contact you, but our site sends you a direct e-mail from the person,” Barbaree said.

“You will only have to log into the site when you register and when you have to change contact information.”
