Maplesville dominated the first quarter of its game with Billingsley on Friday night and never let the Bears (0-1) back in the game to win 40-20.

The Red Devils (1-0) held a 14-0 edge at the end of the first frame thanks to two touchdown runs by Hunter McCay (5 yards and 1 yard) and a defense that held the visitors without a first down on three possessions.

Billingsley threatened on a couple of different occasions but could never draw to within striking distance.

The Bears made it 14-6 about halfway through the second quarter when Jamar Hopson scored from the 10-yard line, but the Devils responded with a 43-yard strike from Matt Hamner to Brian Bailey and a 15-yard scoring connection from the same two.

McCay later added his third touchdown run of the night, and Chris Bailey scored also.

Billingsley concluded the scoring when Mario Reese in the fourth quarter found a wide open Raphael Brooks in the left corner of the end zone.

Bailey finished with 89 yards rushing, and McCay had 70. Hamner completed seven of 12 passes for 97 yards.
