Numbers crunch

With only 20 players on the roster, and only three of those seniors, Verbena isn’t going to impress anyone with numbers.

But what the Red Devils lack in quantity they hope to make up for in quality.

The lack of depth creates problems not only during the season but also while preparing for it. Without enough players to line up two squads against each other, Verbena has been unable to create the kind of practice situations Harris would like.

“We haven’t been able to hit,” Harris said. “I was worried about our intensity.”

Harris said he was pleased with Red Devils showing in a preseason 38-14 loss to Jemison, though. The next test will be the season opener. Verbena hosts Thorsby at 7 p.m. Friday.
