CCHS freshman places 10th in spelling bee
Chilton County High School freshman Anmol Ahuja attended the National Junior BETA Club convention in Myrtle Beach, SC, and placed 10th in the spelling bee. To earn the privilege of competing in this event, she won the state Junior BETA Club spelling bee. Anmol is the daughter of Deepak and Dimple Ahuja of Clanton.
Jemison grad finishes basic combat training
Army National Guard Pvt. Meciala T. Haggins has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Haggins is the daughter of Christina Haggins of Montevallo and granddaughter of Flo Ware of Jemison.
In 2007, the private graduated from Jemison High School.
