Thorsby wins first area match of season

Thorsby began its 2008 season with an area win over St. Jude (25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21) at a tri-match. The Rebels (1-1) also played Montgomery Catholic but lost that one (25-17, 25-21).

On the night, Brittany Maddox recorded 11 kills, five blocks, four digs and six aces; Stephanie Moore had five blocks and three aces; Holly Smith finished with 14 assists and seven aces; Kendra Dawson had six aces and 12 digs; Keri Whitman had five kills and three aces; and Michelle Hendrix had seven assists and three digs.

Thorsby visits Isabella at 1 p.m. Monday.

Isabella opens at home with pair of wins

Isabella defeated Chilton County High (25-19, 30-28) and Horseshoe Bend (26-24, 25-23) in a tri-match on Thursday night. Horseshoe Bend topped CCHS (25-11, 25-17) in the other match.

Carissa Eiland had 13 kills and five aces on the night for Isabella; Krysta Tyler recorded five kills, 22 assists and six aces; and Amber Wyatt finished with 18 kills.

Isabella hosts Billingsley and Thorsby at 1 p.m. Monday.

Billingsley takes first set but falls to Marbury

Billingsley on Thursday night won the first set against Autauga County rival Marbury, 25-21, but dropped the next three, 16-25, 23-25 and 22-25.

The Bears (0-1) will next play at Isabella at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
