My bad

At times, I wonder if anyone really reads the paper, but this week, there is no doubt that we have a large number of people who read the paper each day.

What made me realize this is that Sunday we launched our redesigned paper. We did some things to create more space in the paper to run more stories, pictures and other items brought in by our readers. Unfortunately, we went a little too far in that respect to the point that the font size on our records page was just a little bit too small.

On both Monday and Tuesday, we have answered calls from numerous readers telling us that the type is just too small. Some have even joked that we wanted to sell advertising to local optometrists saying, “If you can’t read this type, call us.”

I can’t say that’s a bad idea, but we’re not going to do that. So the type that you saw in Sunday’s paper was an aberration and a mistake. That problem was fixed in Tuesday’s paper, and the small type won’t be there anymore.

While it may sound like I don’t like the feedback from our readers, I actually do appreciate our readers calling us, e-mailing us and telling us that something is wrong or not good with the paper. I know we are not a perfect newspaper. We do make mistakes, but when we make a mistake, there is no way to correct the problem. We can’t come out and magically change the paper to what it should be. When it’s printed, it’s just there. We can’t take it back.

While we can’t change the way Sunday’s paper looks now, we can change the look from here forward, and we are tweaking the font size and other aspects to make the paper be the best we can make it. I apologize for the inconvenience that it caused Sunday.

If you ever have any suggestions or complaints, feel free to contact us. We will do our best to correct any problems that you might have.
