Two people were arrested resulting from Wednesday’s standoff.

Kenneth Cartheal Mims, arrested Wednesday after running from the police and barricading himself in a trailer with a hostage, was joined in the Chilton County Jail by his mother, Joanne Roper Mims.

The standoff took place at a residence on County Road 30 in the Fairview area. The call was responded to by Chilton County Sheriff’s Deputies, Chilton County Special Operations Unit, Maplesville Police Department and Jemison Police Department.

The SWAT Team initially approached the suspect’s home to serve two outstanding warrants for probation violation and criminal mischief. While at the home, the SWAT Team could visibly see the manufacturing of an unlawful substance and called for a search warrant. While awaiting the warrant, the suspect came home and noticed the officers in his yard, which resulted in the brief chase and hostile standoff.

After receiving a search warrant for the home of Mims, the SWAT Team found proof that the occupants of the household were in the production of an unlawful substance. After taking Kenneth Mims to jail and placing Joanne Mims under arrest, the two were charged with the unlawful manufacture of a controlled substance. Kenneth Mims also had one additional charge of Possession of Precursor Chemicals placed upon him.

Both suspects are in the Chilton County Jail awaiting bond hearings.

“We were able to go in and really search the home after the warrant was put into play, and that is when we found the full evidence of the lab and we placed both suspects under arrest,” Deputy Chief Shane Mayfield said.
