BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – There’s been little change in Alabama’s overall drought status, despite recent heavy rainfall.

The latest report, released Thursday, from the U.S. Drought Monitor did not show any growth in dry conditions gripping the state. The Survey showed 94 percent of Alabama experiencing some stage of drought — about the same as last week.

38 percent of the state is classified as D-1 or moderate while another 29 percent is in D-2 status or severe drought conditions.

Other areas of the Southeast remain in extreme drought for the second summer in a row and there are fears that dry conditions will spread.
