Virginia Houlditch Patterson

Virginia Houlditch Patterson passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at the age of 91. She was born on Dec. 17, 1924.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Samuel Patterson; parents, Willie and Lucille Houlditch; sister, Patty Sims; and brother Ralph Houlditch.

She is survived by her sister, Billie Pigford of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.; brother, Jim Houlditch of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Rhonda Sharman of Pelham and Jennifer Ray (Mark) of Wilsonville; four grandchildren, Sam Sharman (Mary), Ginger Sharman, Marcie Dickerson (Brad) and Zach Ray (Chantelle); five great grandchildren, Nancy Kay, Josh and Alex Sharman and Owen and Evan Dickerson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Dallas County High School and worked for Western Union and the Stock Exchange. After marriage, she and Sam lived in Clanton and raised their daughters. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Clanton, a member of the General Sumpter Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an avid football fan of the University of Alabama where she attended many national championship games.

The graveside service will be Monday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery, Selma.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205.
