Police seek public’s help in theft case

Clanton Police have few leads in a recent burglary at a residence but hope the public can help.

A resident off Highway 31 in south Clanton returned home around lunchtime on March 29 to find a door kicked in and a flatscreen television and satellite box stolen, Clanton Police Department Detective Robert Bland said.

The victim’s residence is across Highway 31 from the KMA parking lot, allowing police to search surveillance video and see a vehicle arrive and leave the residence during the likely time of the burglary.

However, police have had no luck locating the silver pickup truck.

“That’s the only vehicle that came onto the property and left the property during that time,” Bland said.

Bland said the make and model of the truck could not be determined from the surveillance video.

“We’re just asking for anybody that could have been in the area that day or recognizes the vehicle to let us know any information they may have,” Bland said.

Anyone with information should call CPD at (205) 755-1194.

Bland said the incident is similar to others he has worked in Clanton and knows about in other jurisdictions, including Jemison.

The perpetrators target homes close to interstate exits when residents are away, and typically look for jewelry and electronics.

“It appears to be somebody going into houses that they know to be unoccupied or they have been possibly looking at,” Bland said.

The proximity of victims’ homes to the interstate leads officers to conclude the perpetrators drive in from outside the area.

“We believe that these individuals are out-of-towners,” Bland said.
