Isabella’s varsity volleyball team improved to 12-2 on the season with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-21) win over the visiting Chilton County Tigers on Thursday night.

After dominating the Tigers in the opening set, CCHS made the Mustangs earn every point through the following two sets.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 5-3 lead in Set 2 before the Mustangs came roaring back behind the serving of Jayda Jones to pick up five consecutive points to take an 8-5 lead.

Chilton slowly chipped away at the IHS lead and tied the set at 14-all.

Neither team could do much to distance itself until consecutive points by the Mustangs set up a game point situation that Hailey Underwood would capitalize on with a kill to bring the set to a close.

An ace by Underwood and two consecutive points by the Mustangs gave Isabella an early 5-1 lead to start the third set, but the Tigers would not quit and battled back to pick up four straight of their own to cut the deficit to 12-10.

Consecutive Chilton County points tied the game at 14-all, and a kill gave the Tigers a 15-14 lead.

The Mustangs knotted the set again at 15-all, but a kill by CCHS gave Chilton a one-point lead and control of the serve.

A 17-15 Chilton lead was short-lived, however, as with the game tied at 17-all, an ace by Caley Booth gave the Mustangs a one-point lead.

Eyes on the ball: Chilton County's Kaley Lucas winds up for a kill on Thursday at Isabella.

Chilton tied the score again at 18-all, but an ace by Kasey Grimes and a kill by Sophia Underwood helped push the Mustangs out to a 21-18 lead.

With the score at 23-21 in favor of the Mustangs, a kill by Synia Chattman moved the set to game point, and a ball hit into the net by the Tigers brought the set and match to a close.

Kaley Lucas led the Tigers with 11 kills, while Makenzy Wright added 18 serve passes received.

Hailey Underwood led the Mustangs with three kills, one block, three aces, 10 assists and seven digs. Chattman added seven kills, five blocks and two digs for Isabella.
