Michael Barry McNeal, 45, of Clanton, was arrested in the early morning hours of June 27 near the 200 block of County Road 254 in Clanton, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

McNeal was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies seized 52 grams of “ice” with a street value of $5,200 and a false aerosol can used as a hidden compartment for the illegal drugs, the release said.

“Ice is a street name for the drug methamphetamine, which is a powerful, highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system,” the release said. “Also known as meth and crystal, among many other terms, it takes the form of a white, odorless, bitter-tasting crystalline substance that easily dissolves in water or alcohol.”

Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon said he was glad to see the drugs removed from the street and he was appreciative to all of the officers involved. The arrest was a result of a joint effort between the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Special Operations Narcotics Division and the Clanton Police Department.
