The Isabella track and field team received a check for more than $5,000 on Wednesday to help with the cost of new equipment.

“We are so blessed to have this,” IHS track and field coach Rex Littleton said. “This will really help us out in so many ways.”

Two fundraisers and a contribution from Modern Woodmen of America helped the track team raise $5,588 to help build a runway for a long jump practice station, a circle for shotput and discus throw and a small shed for storage of pole vault and high jump pads, along with travel expenses.

The school held a silent auction and a camp stew sale in February that raised $2,500.

The camp stew sale used former IHS teacher James Pierce’s recipe.

“Everyone really enjoyed the camp stew sale,” Littleton said. “It was something that the community really supported.”

In 2014, the sale earned the track team $900, Littleton said.

Littleton said students at IHS enjoy participating in track and field because it is something different when compared to other sports such as baseball or football.

“Kids just really like track and field here,” Littleton said. “We are still a team but it is a great individual sport as well.”

Harold Jarman with Modern Woodmen of America awarded the grant to Littleton and members of the track and field team.

“We have always thought very highly of the school and were happy to help them out,” Jarman said.
