Elmer Elijah Powell

Elmer Elijah Powell, 80, of Clanton, passed away Sept. 12 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster.

He was born on Nov. 14, 1933, in Chilton County, the son of the late Thomas M. Powell and the late Bertie Wyatt Powell.

He was an equipment operator for the city of Clanton.

Surviving are his wife, Ester Janice Powell of Clanton; son, Turley “Danny” Powell of Prattville; daughters, Sylvia Moore (Chris) of Clanton, Sandy Smith (Lynn) of Clanton; grandchildren, Turley “Daniel” Powell of Clanton, Daron Powell of Prattville, Stephen Moore of Clanton, Stephanie Moore of Clanton, Andrew Smith (Crissy) of Clanton, Ty (Whitney) Smith of Columbus, Ga., Kayla Blair (Wes) of Thorsby; brother, Monroe Powell of Clanton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas M. Powell; mother, Bertie Powell; brother, Tommy Powell; sister, Lorene Coburn and great-grandson, Gunner Lynn Smith.

Friends were received from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 14, Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services were held Sept. 15 at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist No. 2 with the Rev. Glenn Bonds officiating.

Interment will follow in Providence Baptist No. 2 Cemetery in Clanton.
