Oscar W. “Pete” Turner Sr., 74, of LaGrange, Ga. passed away Aug. 18 at West Georgia Medical Center.

“Pete,” as he was affectionately known, was born Oct. 29, 1939, in Troup County, Ga., to the late Richard R. Turner Sr. and Maurice Christine Brannon Turner.

He served the community as founder and owner of Auto and Truck Ambulance.

Turner was proud to be a member of the Hogansville Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Allen Turner and Richard “Ricky” Turner Sr.; two brothers, Richard R. Turner Jr. and Donald B. Turner Sr.; two sisters, Frances Turner England and Doris Turner Doster.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Jayne Gladney Turner; children, Lydia Turner Bond, Wally Turner (Janet C.), and Beth Turner Norred (Randy); grandchildren, Joshua Turner Norred (Debra J), Holly Rushing (Daniel), Tyler Norred (Brittany), Lauren Turner, Deke Turner (Carey), Lacy Bond, Nikki Bond, Ret Turner, Chelsea Turner Binion (Daniel), Cody Turner, Brannon Turner; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy Turner Miles (Davis W. Booker), Joann Turner Coe, and Brenda Turner Lee (Ernest); several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Aug. 21 at Baptist Tabernacle with the Rev. Jimmy McMillian officiating.

Burial will follow in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.

The gathering of family and friends was Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
