FOOTBALL PREVIEW: Bears eager to show they can compete

Oak Grove (0-1) at Jemison (1-1)
What could be better than starting the season with a come-from-behind, double-overtime victory over a rival? Starting the year with a win in region play—the games that determine playoff seeding. Jemison has a chance to accomplish both feats in the first two games of the 2013 season.
Tarrant (0-1) at Thorsby (1-0)
Tarrant comes into the game with an 0-1 record, but that loss can pretty much be thrown out because it was to a Class 5A team, McAdory. Tarrant edged Thorsby last year, 19-14, but the Rebels hope home field advantage will make a difference this time around—especially since Homecoming is being celebrated.
Verbena (0-1) at Wadley (0-1)
Verbena players were undoubtedly disappointed by their season-opening home loss to rival Thorsby, but the Red Devils will have to put that result behind them quickly, as a visit to Wadley looms to open region play. Wadley defeated the Devils last season, 34-6, but VHS will look to keep the game closer.
