An investigation is ongoing following a fatality of a Montevallo woman in Jemison on Friday night.

Johnnie Cox, 62, of Montevallo was pronounced dead on the scene after a single axle semi-truck collided with the SUV Cox was a passenger in, according to Jemison Police Chief Shane Fulmer.

Fulmer said the driver of the SUV was airlifted to UAB hospital.

The crash occurred at the intersection of County Road 42 East and County Road 29 near the Smokey Hollow restaurant shortly after 8 p.m.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

Fulmer said authorities are continuing an investigation as to how the crash occurred but it did appear the SUV pulled in front of the semi-truck.

JPD, Thorsby Police Department, Union Grove Fire Department, Jemison Fire Department and Alabama State Troopers responded to the accident.
