Bears claim first area title since 2008

Billingsley defeated Autaugaville, 11-1, on Saturday to win the school’s first baseball area title since 2008.

Garrett Harrell was 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI. Thomas Nichols added a hit, three RBI and four stolen bases. Mason Friday collected a hit and three stolen bases. Dalton Davis had an RBI single.

Kendall Elrod was the winning pitcher, going five innings while giving up three hits and striking out six batters.

On April 12, Billingsley swept Ellwood Christian in a doubleheader by scores of 20-4 and 14-4.

In the first game, Justin Snow led the Bears at the plate, going 3-for-4 including a double and three RBI.

Garrett Price, Harrell Friday each added two hits and two RBI. Matt Prebula doubled and had three RBI. Nichols and Tyler McLean chipped in hits.

Friday got the win on the mound, going four innings and giving up five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

In Game 2, Price swung a hot bat, going 3-for-4 including a triple and two RBI. Freshman Eric Willis went 2-for-2 at the plate. Harrell, Hunter Sanders, Snow and Friday added a hit each.

Willis pitched three innings and got the win while Harrell pitched two innings to close the game.
