James Ruben Moates

James Ruben “Buddy” Moates, age 87 of Clanton, passed away on Jan. 10, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Chilton County on Oct. 5, 1925, the son of the late George Washington Moates and the late Addie Velma Thomas Moates.

He was a former machinist with Bayuk Cigar Company in Selma.

He is survived by: wife, Freddie Moates of Clanton; daughter, Sarah Osendott of Milton, Fla.; son, James Douglas Moates of Panama City, Fla.; son, Roger Steven Moates of Clanton; son, Ronald David Moates of Clanton; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise Harris of Indiana; sister, Lois Marie Shields of Clanton; sister, Mary Nell Lockhart of Hoover; and brother, Monroe Grady Moates of Clanton.

He is preceded in death by his parents, G.W. and Velma Moates; brother, Grady Monroe Moates; brother, George Leonard Moates; and sister, Velma Sue Bryant.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. from the Memorial Chapel of Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Brooks officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Church of God Cemetery in Clanton.

Final care and arrangements entrusted to Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home of Clanton.
